The Urban League of Greater Richmond operates various programs that services geared at helping the community prosper and flourish. Below is a listing of some of the Urban League of Greater Richmond programs and services.


Housing Program

Housing ProgramThe Urban League of Greater Richmond is a HUD approved housing counseling agency. The Urban League's housing program provided pre and post purchase housing counseling, predatory lending counseling, foreclosure prevention and pre-post rental counseling.

The Home Buyers classes held per year, over 95 first time individuals purchased their first home and 45 individuals and families will purchase home between three and six months and 35 will purchase within a year.

Employment Program

Employment ProgramAdult employment – The Employment & Workforce Development department provides an array of employment opportunities to individuals seeking employment, career changes, job readiness and technical skills training, as well as employers who wish to recruit qualified employees to fill vacancies within the work place.

The employment department screened over 300 individuals and 80 percent of which obtained employment in career oriented positions during the year in the Richmond area.

Technology Center

Technology CenterThe Urban League of Greater Richmond has a full computer center that has ten desk top computers. The lab is available for business and to provide training to individuals to do job searches, resumes, etc. along with adult/youth education training and internet access.

Each year, over 1,100 individuals were provided training in the lab.


Project Employment

    

Project Employment program of the Urban League is the most significant employment and job  placement source for underserved adults in the Tri-Cities

area. Designed to meet the needs of   the Tri-Cities current  workforce while assisting employers in meeting their diversity goals. Our mission is to assist the unemployed & under employed population in achieving economic stability

through jobs and training. Project Employment provides high-quality training

and employment opportunities for individuals. The Employment Services Office

is partnered with the Workforce Investment Board helping adults attain economic self-sufficiency through good jobs, homeownership, and entrepreneurship and

wealth accumulation.

Credit Repair

Credit RepairThe Urban League operates a credit repair program to provide assistance to company employees, individuals and families.

The program is a full assessment program that provides credit assessment, credit counseling and credit reports.

Each year, over 250 individuals were given assessment and counseling, which 150 of the individuals’ credit rating has improved within the year.


Project Life

Project LifeHealth Services

This program is a partnership between Kraft Foods and the Urban League of Greater Richmond to educate underserved families about healthy lifestyles, good nutrition, proper exercise, obesity, diabetes, cancer, etc.

This outreach program was also presented to business sectors. Each year, 900 individuals attended these workshops.

Health Careers

Health CareersHealth Services

This is a partnership with MCV/VCU Hospital Quality Care Unit program. This program provides 50 middle to high school kids to become Summer interns in the hospital health care system. This program has provided the opportunity for the underserved youth to learn about becoming a health professional.
