- New Leaders for New SchoolsLEAD. INSPIRE. JOIN. According to Bill Gates, as we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others. Over the course of 5 years, the DC program of New Leaders for New Schools has facilitated change and had provided quality educational access to all students. Nearly 50 New Leaders are currently serving in school leadership positions throughout DC’s public school district and charter schools. With a collective vision, these men and women are driving major gains in student achievement within their school communities:· In 2008, New Leaders increased the percentage of students reaching standards in both english language arts (ELA) and math at greater rates than the district. New Leaders increased the proportion of students scoring proficient or advanced across ELA and math by 15 percentage points, compared to the district’s increase of 12 points.· New Leaders’ 2 high schools with available graduation data are graduating students at higher rates than the district. We need your help to find our next class of outstanding school leaders to join this community of people who are making a difference in student achievement for every child.Do you know a current or former educator with the talent to drive academic achievement who has:
- Made dramatic gains in student achievement in a K-12 classroom?
- Experience leading adults as either the leader or an active member of a team?
- Personal responsibility to set and accomplish goals?
- Resilience in the face of challenges?
Our comprehensive program includes ten weeks of rigorous training; a year-long, paid residency in a public district or charter school; weekly coaching from successful former principals; administrative certification; and ongoing support once on-the-job as a school leader. New Leaders also become members of a nationwide community of driven and results-oriented colleagues who share a goal of ensuring high academic achievement for every student.
